Carol’s Rambling

While it is still officially Summer, it feels quite like Fall where I hale from!  I have been wearing a light jacket during my morning walks of late.  I do like the changing of the seasons, but I dread thinking of the cold weather ahead!  I definitely do NOT like to be cold at all!  But I do love Fall, with the changing colors and the crunch of dead leaves underfoot.

The cooler weather definitely stirs my soul to start knitting .  I see new yarns and my heart goes pitty pat! I do like to keep busy.

I have been gifted with a new software and I am currently reviewing it.  From what I see thus far, this is a must have piece of software for offices and anyone really who takes pride in their writing!  It won’t be long and I will begin telling you all about it, so keep your eyes peeled!

Please do what you can for the poor people who have suffered with the atrocious storms we have had of late.  I have been fortunate that I have not had to deal with that, but I feel very badly for those who have, and have been donating and praying for them all.

How To Continue Numbering in your Word Documents

There is a handy Word feature that will allow you to easily pick up numbering where you previously left off. This is great for numbered lists that are interspersed with paragraphs that are formatted differently.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Key in the first part of your numbered list and format it. For example, if your list has 10 items, and there is a heading after item 4, then you would enter the first four items in the numbered list.
  2. Enter the heading or paragraph that interrupts the list.
  3. Enter the rest of your numbered list and format it. The list should begin with 1 again.
  4. Right-click on the first paragraph after the list interruption to display a Context menu.
  5. Select Bullets and Numbering from the Context menu to display the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. The Numbered tab should be selected.

  1. Select Continue Previous List at the bottom of the dialog box.
  2. Click on OK. The dialog box will close and your list numbering has been modified.

Quickly & Easily Change The Location Of Your Toolbar in Excel

You can quickly and easily change the location of Excel toolbars to whatever works for you!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

Just double-click your mouse on any portion of your toolbar that is not occupied by a tool. The toolbar will be removed from its normal location and will appear in its own dialog box.

Once in that dialog box format, you can easily drag a toolbar to any location on your screen. If you approach a side of the screen, the toolbar will dock to that side. You can dock toolbars to any of the four sides of the screen.

You can experiment with the optional toolbar locations to determine which best suits you.

A Quick & Easy Shortcut to Save A Document As A .PDF File in Word

In my office and many others, we routinely create PDF files from our Word documents. Most folks, myself included, usually do this by using Save As and electing to save our document as a PDF file. As much as I love to save time and keystrokes, I am not sure why this did not seem an inordinately clunky way to do things. That is, until I had an “ah ha” moment the other day when I read an article about a quicker, easier way to do this!

To learn how follow the steps below:

  1. Click on File | Options to display the Options dialog box.
  2. Select the Customize Quick Access Toolbar option at the left side of the dialog box.
  3. Using the Choose Commands From drop-down list, select File Tab to display all of the commands that are on the File tab of the Ribbon.

  1. Scroll through the list of available commands and select Publish As PDF or XPS.
  2. Click the Add button. The command is now moved to the list at the right-hand of the dialog box.
  3. Click OK. The new command will now appear on your Quick Access Toolbar.

Now, when clicked,  a dialog box twill display that looks much like a Save As dialog box. All you need do, is to provide the name you want to use for your PDF file and select k a folder where you would like the file saved.

A much easier and quicker way to create .PDFs in Word wouldn’t you agree?
