Hello everyone and thank you, especially new subscribers for any issues you might be experiencing with CCO. I am trying to get up to speed on how to keep things running smoothly on Word Press and it is a rather steep learning curve for me. So please remain patient and I am certain I will prevail – it’s just a matter of time!

Regardless of what the calendar is saying, I know that spring has sprung in my neck of the woods. My tulips have shown the tops of their greenery and my lilies of the valley are in bloom.  I even saw a dandelion the other day.  The hyacinths have broken through the soil as well. Time for me to get outside again and start trimming those hydrangea bushes.  I like to keep them in good shape for the deer to eat you understand.

It is a time of hope and renewal. I have received my Covid 19 vaccine and I am so looking forward to seeing friends again and family, being able to browse in a fabric store, take a walk on the trail.  I am sure you all get it. Hopefully we have weathered the storm and things will start to get back to life as we knew it and really appreciate it.

I wish you all the luck of the Irish! Of course everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s day which will be here very soon. Until we meet again, please be kind to everyone you meet and remember a good heartfelt hug can do a lot.

How To Delete Table Cells

I have covered how to delete rows and columns in a previous post, so now I am moving on to deleting cells in your table. If you delete borders around individual cells, you will combine adjacent cells into a single cell.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

You can delete data in cells simply by selecting your data and pressing your Delete key. If you want to delete your data and the cell also, you have options.

Delete a cell and shift adjacent rows or columns, which will cause you most likely to have a strangely shaped table or Delete the data and cell borders, which will keep the symmetrical  but may merge your cells. So these are clearly not optimal selections.

To delete a cell and change the layout of your table:

  1. Select the cell or cells you would like to delete.
  2. Click the Layout tab under Table Tools.
  3. In the Rows & Column group, click Delete. A drop-down menu will appear.
  4. Select Delete Cells.
  5. Select Shift Cells Left or Shift Cells Up.
  6. Click OK.

To Delete Cell Borders, follow the steps below:

  • Place your cursor in your table where you would like to make modifications.
  • Under the Table Tools tab, click Layout.
  • In the Draw group, click the Eraser. Note that your cursor has turned into an eraser.
  • Now, select one of the choices below:
  • To delete the entire cell border, click the cell border.
  • To delete one or more sides of a border, move your mouse near a cell border you would like to delete and hold down your left mouse button and drag to highlight one or more cell borders and then release your mouse button. Word will delete the selected cell borders and any data stored in adjacent cells.
  • Press ESC or double-click your mouse to disable the Eraser and go back to your I Beam  cursor.

 

 

 

 

How To Use Your Ruler in Word

Usually once I have taught people how to use their Rule in Word documents, they are so surprised at how much easier and quicker it can be once they know how! I hope that will be your reaction as well.

Before I start, the first thing you need to do is make sure your Ruler is visible. If you do not see it at the top of your Word document, follow the steps below to enable it.

On your Ribbon, on the View tab, select Ruler to enable it.

Ok, now that we know how to enable the Ruler, I can show you how much you are going to love using it. First I will cover how to set a Tab Stop using your Ruler. Yes, I covered this in an earlier post but this has a bit more detail.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

Select Left Tab at the end of your horizontal Ruler to change it to the type of tab you would like to use.

Select one of the types below by simply clicking on the L shown above to cycle through the different options.

A let tab stop sets the left end of your text line. As you key in text, it fills toward the right.

center       A Center tab stop sets the position at the center of your text line. As you key in text, it  fills to the left.

 

      A Right  tab stop sets the right end of your text line. As you key in text, the text fills to the left.

 

decimal       A Decimal tab stop aligns numbers around a decimal point. Regardless of the number of digits, your decimal point will remain in

the same position.

 

bar       A Bar tab stop does not position your text. Instead, it inserts a vertical bar at the tab position. The Bar tab stop will be

added to your text the minute you click it. A small caveat with this one – if you fail to clear the bar stop before you

print your document, the vertical line will be printed.

Click or tap the bottom of your horizontal ruler where you would like your tab stop to appear.

I still remember when I learned how to use this years ago and how much easier it made my job.  I worked in a law firm and I had so many uses for these!  I hope this post is just as helpful to you!
