You use macros in Excel? You would like to have them handy like the macros you used to assign to toolbars in earlier iterations of Excel? Well guess what? You can still have them at your fingertips in Excel 2013!
You can assign a macro to a custom tab on your Ribbon or a custom button on your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in Excel 2013 and still be able to access it by clicking a button like you used to do!
Follow the steps below to learn how.
- Click on File | Options.
- Click the Customize Ribbon tab under Options – OR – click ALT + FTC.
- Click Macros in the Choose Commands From drop-down on the left-hand side.
Excel will list the names of all the macros created in your current workbook.
- Click the name of the Custom group on the custom tab to which you would like to add your macro in the Main Tabs list on the right-hand side.
If you have not already created a custom tab and group for your macro or need to create a new one, follow these steps:
- Click the New Tab button at the bottom of the Main Tabs list.
- Excel will add both a new Tab and new Group to the Main Tabs list and select the New Group item.
- Click the New Tab item you just added to the Main Tabs.
- Click the Rename button at the bottom right-hand side and key in a display name for the new custom tab.
- Click OK.
- Click the New Group item just below the custom tab you just renamed.
- Click the Rename button and key in a name for the new custom group.
- Click OK.
- In the Choose Commands From list on the left-hand side, click the name of the macro you would like to add to your custom group now selected in the Main Tabs list box on the right-hand side.
- Click the Add button to add your selected macro the your custom group on your custom tab.
- Click OK.
Once you have added your macro to the custom group of a custom tab, the name of the macro appears on a button that has a generic icon on your custom tab on your Ribbon.
All that is necessary now, is for you to click it!
