Basic File Explorer Search Shortcuts in Windows 10

As promised, below are more lovely shortcuts!

Windows + E – Opens File Explorer

  • CTRL + F or CTRL + E or CTRL + F3 – Will place your pointer in your search bar
  • CTRL + L or Alt + D – Places your pointer in your address bar
  • Up Arrow – Selects result above
  • Down Arrow – Selects result below
  • Left Arrow – Selects result to the right
  • Left Arrow – Selects result to the left
  • Enter – Opens selected file
  • Backspace or Alt + Left Arrow – Returns to previous page
  • Alt +  Right Arrow – Goes to next page
  • Alt + Up Arrow – Returns to folder that your current file or folder resides
  • Esc – Clears your search or address bar

It is finally getting rather chilly in my neck of the woods.  I confess I look like a very old lady wearing my wool, hand felted hat when I take the trek to get the newspaper in the morning. I think I am at the age now that I simply couldn’t give a fig less about someone else’s opinion of my attire.  As my daughter tells me “Mom, if you can rock it, you can wear it.” I prefer to think I can rock it.  There is your humor for the day.

I hate the cold but I have a dear friend who lives in Alaska and the other day she told me there was 16 inches of snow on the ground and it was still coming down.  I will count my blessings!

I hope you are all doing well and finally able to meet with your friends for lunch or dinner or just to say hello and catch up.  I have my booster shot now and at last went out to a nice restaurant and boy did it feel good.   I think I have put together some very good posts for you and that you will learn something from them.

Until next time, take care and be kind to those less fortunate than you. Even if it’s just a smile – it may be the only bright spot in someone’s life.

Windows Ten Shortcuts

If you have been reading my articles for any length of time, you know that I love to save time and keystrokes and so we have this post.  Enjoy all the time and keystrokes saved!

Basic Windows 10 and Cortana search:

Windows – Open Start menu search bar

Windows + S or Windows + Q – Open Cortana search bar in text mode

Down Arrow – Select result below

Up Arrow – Select result above

Right Arrow – Select option to the right

Left Arrow – Select option to the left

Enter – Open selected item

Esc – Close search menu
