I am sure you have had instances where you have started to edit a cell in your worksheet and then, for whatever reason, changed your mind and you didn’t quite know how to stop it.
There are two methods of cancelling an edit. Follow the steps below to learn how:
- The first method is to simply click your ESC key.
- The other is to click on the red X just to the left of your formula bar. You will note that the red X will only appear after you start typing.
Whichever method you choose to employ, MS Excel will undo your changes and return the cell to its state before you started typing.
- If you should make a mistake and click Enter, MS Excel will replace the contents of the cell with whatever you were typing. To undo this, simply use the undo feature in Excel, which is CTRL + Z or click the Undo tool on the toolbar.
