We sometimes use drawing objects to make a stronger point in our spreadsheets or just to jazz them up a bit and make them more interesting and visually appealing to the viewer. You can use text boxes, Smart Art, Clip Art, arrows, or any of the other drawing objects available to you in MS Excel for these purposes.
You will find most of the drawing objects on the Insert Tab.
It can sometimes be a bit tricky finding the right size and placing objects within your spreadsheet, but there is a simple trick for working with drawing objects that can make these tasks so much easier. The fact is, most folks do not even know this trick exists!
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- Depress and hold down your ALT key while dragging the border of your object or the object’s sizing handle.
- This allows you to easily resize objects such as text boxes, arrows, lines, etc., as well as align them with cell borders.
- As you drag, the edge of your object will snap to the cell border.
Go ahead and experiment with this. I know it will make life easier for you when using drawing objects in your spreadsheets.
