Ever had someone send you a document and there is a page break at a very awkward spot but you cannot figure out how to get rid of it? When I worked on a help desk I had folks calling me with this problem very often.
Many things can cause an unexpected page break in MS Word. To find them and remove them, you can start by checking the Before and After spacing of your paragraphs.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- Select your paragraph.
- in version 2010, click the Paragraph launcher in the Paragraph group on the Home tab.
- Check for unusual spacing in the Before and After boxes.
- On the Line and Page breaks tab, look at your pagination settings, such as Keep With Next or Keep Lines Together as these could also possibly make your page break in an unlikely spot.
- You can also check the margins of your document in Page Setup.
- In Word 2010, it will be found on the Page Layout tab.
- Be certain the From Edge settings for your Header and Footer are not excessive. The default is 0.5″.
- If your text is in a table, select your table and right-click and select Table Properties.
- On the Rows tab, make sure Allow Row to Break Across Pages is selected.
- You can also remove hard page breaks using the Replace command.
- Click CTRL + H to open the Find and Replace dialog.
- In Word 2010, click on Replace in the Editing group of the Home tab.
- If you do not see Special displayed on the Find and Replace dialog, click the More button.
- Click Special and Manual Page breaks in the list.
- If you are positive you have not entered any manual breaks in your document, leave Replace With blank and select Replace All.
- Otherwise, select Find Next to find any hard breaks in your document.
You should know how to find those unlikely page breaks now!
