A subscriber wrote to me recently with a problem. He needed to insert an “em” space in his document and could not figure out how to do this.
First of all, an em or en space are types of spaces used for typographical purposes. They insert a wider than normal space in a line of text in your document.
A lot of folks do this using the Numerical keypad on their keyboard or using the Symbol dialog box.
Both of the above methods are simple to do and work very well, but if you find that you are using these special spaces a lot, you may want to use an even simpler method that only requires a single click.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- Click File | Options, to display the dialog box.
- At the left-hand side of the dialog box, click Customize.
- In the Choose Commands From list, select Commands Not in the Ribbon.
- In the Commands list, select Insert Em Space and click Add.
- In the Commands list, select Insert En Space and click Add.
- Click on Close or OK.
Now, all you have to do is click on your new tools on your Ribbon to insert those special spaces!
