I have received more than one query from users asking me why the ampersand that they have keyed into the Header in MS Excel simply disappears when they print the page.
Allow me to clear up the mystery for all of you surrounding the disappearing ampersands in MS Excel. The reason the ampersand seems to disappear when you print your page is because when you use an ampersand MS Excel reads the symbol as a marker of sorts, alerting Excel that there is some formatting code coming after it. Relax, there is a way around this.
The next time you want to use an ampersand in MS Excel, do the following:
- Instead of entering one ampersand, simply use two.
When you enter two ampersands instead of one, MS Excel will see the second one and it will no longer disappear when you print your page.
