You have learned about using fields in previous versions of the Word Bytes newsletter and I am betting that some of you use special fields in your document. Sometimes those fields are updated automatically when you make changes in your document, which you may not want to happen for whatever reason.
Luckily, there is a very quick and easy remedy for this particular problem, although it isn’t very well known. You can lock the fields that you do not wish to be updated.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
- Update the field first by clicking Shift + F9.
- Then select the field that you would like locked.
- Click Ctrl + Shift + F11 to lock it .
Should you later decide that you want to unlock a particular field, follow these steps:
- Select the field you would like to unlock.
- Click on Ctrl + Shift + F11.
