A legal secretary I know recently wrote to me with a problem. It seems her eyes are not what they used to be and she likes to have her documents open at a zoom setting of 140%. Her boss, on the other hand likes to have them at 100% so whenever he works on a document and saves it, it saves at that zoom setting. When she opens the document to work on it she then has to change the zoom setting.
I advised her that she could have her zoom setting and it was simply a matter of creating a macro. She needs to create the macro because unfortunately, MS Word does not allow you to have a defult open Zoom level for your documents.
What she needs to do is create an AutoOpen macro and save it to her Normal.dot file. The macro will then run whenever a document based on the normal.dot template is opened and since every document has access to the Normal.dot, every document will have access to the macro.
Follow the steps below:
Open your Normal.dot template file and create your macro as follows:
Public Sub AutoOpen ()
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Zoom.Pertentage = 140
End Sub
Save and close your Normal.dot template and exit MS Word.
Once you restart Word and start opening documents, they should change to your specified zoom level automatically.
