[February 1, 2012]

Hopefully by the time you read this I will be lying on a beach in Aruba soaking up the sun! That's the plan at the moment anyway.

What a wonderful surprise! An all expense paid trip to a sunny island! And just the perfect time of year for it too! I hope to be posting photos on my blog while I am there, so if you care to, check it out!

I am currently looking out my office window at snow on the ground and the birds jockeying for position at the feeder. There are four on the feeder and about fifteen on the ground under the feeder. Beautiful to watch - gray jays, cardinals, wood peckers, etc. Nature's little show for an audience of one! I do enjoy watching them.

I have noticed since the holidays that the days are getting longer (i.e., it is light out later and I am not driving home in the dark). I am on the countdown for Springtime now. Every day brings me a bit closer to warmer climes and more time outdoors!

I hope you are having nice seasonal weather wherever you hail from and that you are enjoying it as well! The holiday on the horizon is Valentines Day and after that St. Patrick's Day. Then we will REALLy be on the way to Springtime!

The quote for the week is:

Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. ~ Howard Thurman

Find your passion and pursue it and make it your life for we are only truly alive when we are doing just that. When we are happy and content. When we are living our passion on a daily basis, whatever it may be, we are giving back to the universe and in turn absorbing positive energy as a result. So find what makes your heart sing, that one thing that makes your senses hum and gives you that little jolt of electricity. Then go and share your passion with everyone else along the way. It matters not what your passion is. It was meant to be shared. Listen for your siren call and heed it!

Please be aware that Microsoft has announced that free support has now been withdrawn for Office 2003. They will start to phase out tips and tricks for Office 2003 over the next few months. Paid support, of course, will remain available to everyone but the Microsoft tips and training sites will now focus on versions 2007 and 2010. So if any of your friends, co-workers or colleagues are still using and plan to continue to use Office 2003 steer them to our newsletter. Yes, we will begin phasing in tips and tricks for Office 2007 and 2010 but we won't forget the folks still using version 2003!

Let's get to the tips now!

Link to a Notebook, Section or Page in OneNote

You can create a link to another notebook, section, page, or note so you can click the link and instantly go there. Links offer an easy method to go from one place to another and help you to organize your notes (i.e., create a page with links to other sections and pages).

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Right-click a section name in the Navigation bar or section tabs.
  2. Select Copy Link to Section.
  3. Go to the page where you would like to paste your link.
  4. Click in a note and click CTRL + V.
  5. Select text for another link.
  6. Click the Insert tab.
  7. Click the Link button or click the shortcut CTRL + K.
  8. In the Link dialog box, select a page as the link target.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Key in two left square brackets ([[), the name of a page in your notebook, and two right square brackets (]]) to create another page link.

Assign Required Fields and Requiring Data Entry

Some data is more important than other. For instance, a lawyer would need to have a client's phone number but not necessarily their date of birth. You can tell Access to prevent a user from moving beyond a required field without entering a value. For text and memo fields you can require users to enter at least one character of text.

Follow the steps below to require data entry.

  1. Open your table in Design view.
  2. Click the field for which you want required data entry.
  3. Click in the Required property box.
  4. Click the down arrow.
  5. Click Yes.

Select Entire Paragraph in MS Word

There are different ways to select a paragraph in MS Word. There is no hard and fast rule regarding this topic. It is all about your preferences.

If you are a mouse user, there are several quick methods to select your entire paragraph. First, you can triple-click any place in your paragraph, which I think is the quickest way to do it.

Secondly, you can move your cursor to the left of the first character in any line of your paragraph. Your mouse pointer will turn into an arrow pointing up and right. Double-click your mouse and the paragraph is selected.

Thirdly, if you are using the style area, you can move your mouse pointer into that area to the left of the paragraph you would like to select. Click once on your left mouse button and the entire paragraph is selected.

If you prefer using your keyboard instead of your mouse, you can select your paragraph by clicking CTRL + Up Arrow which will move your insertion point to the beginning of your paragraph and then clicking CTRL + Shift + Down Arrow.
