[June 15, 2010]
We just returned from a week long vacation. We visited family in Castle Rock, Denver and from there drove to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. Despite a medical emergency in Castle Rock and a quick trip to the hospital, it was a great vacation. I have to say that the folks in Denver could not be any friendlier or more helpful. We were dining out when my husband fell ill and the proprietors at the restaurant went out of their way for me, calling an ambulance, helping me, etc. and for that I am extremely grateful. Happily, everything worked out for the best and I am happy to say that my husband is well and was able to enjoy the rest of our vacation.
Of course, visiting with family is always enjoyable but this was a celebration - a baptism and so it was a joyful day seeing our grand nephew and celebrating his baptism with his family.
Seeing the Grand Canyon was something I can now cross off of my list. It was indeed breathtaking and seemingly stretches on forever. I must admit, I had to creep up to the railing with great trepidation to take my photos. I do not like heights but I was glad that I got to visit and see the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. After that we saw the Hoover Dam which is a marvel to see, as well as Lake Mead which is quite beautiful.
Then it was on to "Sin City," Las Vegas. If you enjoy people watching this is the town for you. You see it all and it truly is the city that never sleeps. The one thing I really disliked was that smoking is allowed in every casino which means that you can still smell the smoke in the lobby of your hotel as soon as you set foot outside of your room. We are not big gamblers, but you cannot go to Las Vegas and not visit a casino and the smoke, although not dense, really affected my sinuses and my eyes, so I cannot say that was a great experience. The casinos we visited were extremely crowded and the noise level was very high - not my cup of tea but still an adventure. We saw a nice show and had good meals at some very nice retaurants while there.
So now we are home and even though we packed a great deal into a relatively short period of time, it was still a time for relaxation and having our batteries recharged. I am ready to tackle some new software now, learn some new things hopefully and get things done!
The quote for the day is: Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.

Create a Stamp of your Signature in Adobe Acrobat 8
It can be very helpful to have a stamp of your signature, especially in a law office where pleadings must occasionally be filed electronically.
Follow the steps below to learn how:
Sign your name on a piece of paper several times until you have created one exemplar that you feel is good enough to use as your stamp signature.
- Scan the page of exemplars to PDF.
- Use the Crop tool to draw a box around the exemplar you deem to be the best representation for your signature.
- Double-click inside the box and click OK.
- Save the resulting PDF file to the Adobe Stamps folder on your hard drive: C:\Program Files\ \Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Plug_Ins\Annotations\Stamps\Signatures. You most likely will need to create the Signatures folder, but the beginning of the path should work for you.
- Open a PDF file in which you would like to apply the signature stamp.
- Click on Tools | Commenting | Stamps| Manage Stamps.
- In the Category box, key in Signature. In the name box, key in a name for the stamp that is intuitive to you and therefore easily remembered.
- Click on Select and find where you saved your signature.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
Now, when you want to have a electronic signature in your document, simply click on the Stamp tool, select your signature stamp and then move your cursor the the location in your document where you would like your signature and left-click.
Create E-Mail Shortcut for More Speedy Messages
Who has time to waste during the business day? Certainly not me or you either I bet.
Most times in an office setting your e-mails generally go to the same folks several times a day. It is inefficient to have to enter that address over and over, even with the AutoComplete feature!
If you send frequent e-mails to the same person, this tip could be a real boost to your efficiency!
Follow the steps below to learn how to create a desktop shortcut for sending messages:
- Right-click your desktop.
- Select New | Shortcut.
- In the Create Shortcut dialog box, key in: mailto:emailaddress (using an actual e-mail address). Do not enter any space characters between the mailto: component and the e-mail address.
- Click Next.
- Enter an intuitive name for your e-mail shortcut.
- Click Finish.
To use your new shortcut, simply double-click it. MS Outlook or your default e-mail client will open a mail window and fill in the To field using the address you provided when you created the shortcut.
Key in your message and send!
