[March 1, 2010]

We had some more ice and snow this week and oddly enough, it is becoming the norm. I am no longer shocked and surprised when I rise to find snow on the ground and still more falling from the sky. I can see though that Spring is making its way to us, slowly but surely. I don't need a calendar to know when Spring has arrived. Instead I go by the sights and sounds of the countryside. Even with several inches of snow still on the ground I have seen many Robin Redbreasts in my yard and at the feeder. I love to watch the different birds from my window. Soon it will be warm enough to watch them from the porch.

I know a lot of you have been experiencing the same type of weather. I have heard from many of you about the fierce winter storms that you have weathered this year. I think we are all just about ready for Springtime right about now. At least in my little corner of the universe we are supposed to have some days next week with temperatures very close to fifty degrees. That's a good start!

For those of you who are not aware, I am a contributor to Dave's Computer Tips Newsletter. Once or twice a month I write an article for Dave's newsletter. These articles cover a lot of different software topics. I am also a moderator at the Forum on Dave's site, answering software related questions. There are several moderators that cover lots of computer related areas and answer questions. Right now Dave is having a big contest and there will be 75 winners of a free license for Glarysoft Utilities. You might want to scoot over there to enter the contest before it's too late!

Please join me in welcoming Wendy, Kimberly, Sheryl, Michael, Robert, Clifford, and Ben as the latest premium subscribers to Carol's Word Bytes Newsletter. Welcome to the family! Organize your Programs Menu in Windows XP

We get our nice new computers and then we start adding new programs and applications. After a while, you start to notice that each new program gets added to the bottom of your Programs menu. 1. Click Start | All Programs.
  2. Right-click on one item.
  3. A shortcut menu will appear.

Change MS Outlook's Default Window

When you launch MS Outlook, by detault it displays your Outlook Today view. This view displays calendar entries and tasks for the current date. If this is the way you like it, that's fine, but a lot of folks immediately ignore that view and open their calendar or Inbox. If you like the Outlook Today View, by all means keep it! But it is possible to change it to your preference.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Click on Tools | Options.
  2. Click the Other tab.
  3. In the General section, select the Advanced Options button.
  4. Click the Browse button to the right of the Startup In This Folder option in the General Settings.
  5. In the Select Folder dialog box, choose the folder you want MS Outlook to default to when launched.

You can choose any of Outlook's folders.

Change your mind? You can revert to your Outlook Today view by selecting Personal Folders!
