[September 15, 2009]

The air is just a tad cooler in my area now, but I know we will still experience "Indian Summer" before it gets really cold. I rather like this time of year because it's warm enough during the day that you do not need a coat and in the evenings usually, the most you need is a sweater but it is nice and cool when it is time to sleep.

My driveway is lined with fallen leaves to be raked but the upside is that the color of the foiliage this time of year is breathtaking. Fall is a lovely time of year when you think of it. Farmers are reaping the fruit of their labors, pumpkins are turning up on front porches, there are bales of hay in the fields, squirrels are scurrying everwhere burying their bounty for the cold winter months. It's really very interesting to watch.

I guess soon I will be kneading dough to make some fresh bread and baking fruit tarts and the like and before you know it the holidays will be upon us and I will be baking cookies right and left!

But let's try to live in the moment and enjoy this transition from Summer to Fall and luxuriate in all the different colors and climes. Remember to take the time to savor every minute!

Add Icons to an MS Excel Menu

You can add an icon to a menu or sub-menu by using the same method you use when you add icons to the toolbars in MS Excel or create new toolbars.

  1. Make sure the Customize dialog box for toolbars is open.
  2. Drag the relevant icon to the menu or sub-menu.
  3. The sub-menu will open to allow you to place the icon there.

When you add icons such as the Custom View icon to the Excel menu, you save toolbar space so you can add smaller icons.

Create Quick Notes with WordPad Scraps

Some folks use Notepad to create quick notes to themselves and then save the file on their desktop. White the process is pretty simple, there is an alternative that you may want to investigate. Creating scraps is as easy as a quick drag and drop operation and there is no need for all the steps involved in naming and saving the file.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Launch WordPad.
  2. Create your note.
  3. Select/highlight the text.
  4. Drag the selection and drop it on your desktop.
  5. Close WordPad and click No when prompted to save changes.

Once you drop the selection on your desktop, Windows XP recognizes the selection as an OLE object from WordPad and creates a scrap, complete with a special icon with a default title name of Scrap.

To make it easier to recognize, you can rename the scrap. When you want to view your note, just double-click it and WordPad will open the Scrap.
