[September 1, 2009]

Schools are back in session in my neck of the woods and slowly but surely Summer is ebbing away making way for the start of Autumn on the 22nd of this month.

We have certainly had a bountiful Summer. Just a week or so ago I visited a Farmer's Market in our area and walked all the way back to my office with bags full to the brim of fresh lima beans and tomatos. I would have gotten corn on the cob there as well but I could only carry to much! Then the next day I visited a local farmer and purchased my corn on the cob. Now I was all set to make a dish that my family waits for all summer! The dish doesn't really have a name that I know if, but my Aunt Ginny used to make it for me when I was a little girl and I loved it. I cut the corn off the cob and scald the tomatoes so I can skin them, hull the lima beans and rinse them very well. Then I squish up the tomatoes, add water, salt and pepper and a pinch of sugar to cut the acid of the tomatoes and put everything together in a huge stock pot and let it simmer. I hate to admit it but I use a small portion of side meat as well for seasoning. I know it isn't good for us but I only use it once a year. Once the lima beans and corn are tender, then I roll out flat dumplings and put them in the mix. Mmmmm....mmmmmm - it is delicious if I do say so myself! I guess I will have to work out an extra day to work off those dumplings!

I hope that wherever you are, your summer has been just as bountiful as mine, not just with food but also with good times, friends and family!

Splitting a Document Window in MS Word

MS Word allows you to split the document window, so that you have two independently scrollable panes looking at the same document, one over top of the other. You can even have Normal view on one pane and Outline View in the other! Please note though, that there is only one document open even though each of the panes operate independently! The changes you make in one pane are immediately reflected in the other.

To split the document window, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Window | Split and click where you want the split to appear.
  2. Click and drag the split bar to resize the document panes.

Simply double-click the split bar to restore your window to a single pane.
