[August 1, 2009]

Wow! I cannot believe that August is upon us already! I am not sure if it is because I am getting older or because I am doing more, but time just seems to fly past me anymore - zoom, zoom!

This is a great time of year for fresh produce and I am certainly availing myself of it. We have a local farmer who sells produce in my area and I try to give him plenty of business. Not only is it important to eat healthy, but there is something mystical about eating a food that has been planted in the ground and harvested for you. I always feel like I am saying thank you to Mother Earth when I visit the farmer for my vegetables and fruits. We have had lovely strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, squash, zucchini, and green beans this year. I have also had fresh kale. They are all good for you and delicious as well. I am waiting for the tomatoes now. They are just about right but not quite at their peak quite yet. I do love a fresh tomato sandwich! It really is quite amazing when you stop and think about how a few seeds sown in the ground can produce such a bounty for us. May it always be so!

Getting Rid of Formatting for Good

If you are working on a document that lots and lots of heavy formatting, and you want to get rid of the formatting and start from scratch, there is an easy fix for you.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Highlight your text selection, whether it be a paragraph or the entire document.
  2. Cut or copy the selection to the Office clipboard.
  3. Open the Notepad by clicking on Start | Programs | Accessories | Notepad.
  4. Paste the text you previously copied to the Clipboard.

The Notepad can only work with unformatted text and so all formatting for your text selection is removed. You can now copy your text back to the Clipboard and paste it back into an MS Word document.

Display the Tabs Dialog Box Quickly in MS Word

As you are all aware, I am all about saving time and keystrokes and setting the tabs in my documents is no exception.

Simply double-click on the ruler just below the markings which you see there. Make certain that you double-click at the bottom of the ruler instead of the top. If you double-click at the top you might be surprised to see the Page Setup dialog box appear.

Please take care that you do not inadvertently set a tab stop when you double-click on the ruler, but if you do so, you can delete the newly created tab stop at the Tabs dialog box or simply drag it off the ruler.

Preview Before You Print

If you want to see exactly how your document will look when you print it, you are in luck because MS Word has a very useful function that allows you to do just that.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Place the insertion point on the page you would like to preview.
  2. Click on File | Print Preview or click on the Preview icon on the toolbar.
  3. In version 2007, click the Office button and select Print and Print Preview.

You still have the capacity to move around in your document using Print Preview. You can use the PgUp and PgDn keys to do so.

Once you are finished previewing your document you can exit the preview mode by either clicking on the Close button on the print Preview Toolbar or clicking on Esc.
