[January 15, 2009]
We are what I call the "blah" months now, counting down to Springtime. The only holidays left now are Valentines Day and St. Patrick's Day but despite the holidays, the weather is cold and bleak and well - blah!. I try to use this time to learn new things, read some books for pleasure and try my hand at knitting some caps for newborns. Mind you, I don't always get it all done but at least I plan and have good intentions! I think that's the key - make a plan and try to get some things done (learning), treat yourself kindly (reading for pleasure) and do some volunteer work, give of yourself (knit caps for newborns).
I hope that all of you are making plans and getting things done and yes, doing some volunteering as well. Wherever you live and whatever you do, I hope that you are doing it with a light heart and that you are enjoying yourself and helping others.

Quick Keys in MS Excel
I know that a lot of you know many keyboard shortcuts that you use all the time in MS Excel, but I have a couple to share with you in this newsletter that I don't think that most of you are aware of, and ones which I find to be absolutely helpful and real time savers. I think you will agree with me.

|---|---|
| ALT + = | Insert autosum |
| CTRL + SHIFT +U | Resize the Excel formula bar (2007 only) |
| ALT + ' | Allows for the selection of a named style by typing the first few letters of the style name |
| ALT + ' | In 2007 brings up the style details box |
| CTRL + Y | Repeat last action |
| F4 | Repeat last action |
Moving Cells in MS Excel
Ever enter your data into the wrong cell in your spreadsheet? I know I've done that a couple of hundred times or so. If you get distracted as easily as I do, I am happy to tell you that there is a quick and easy method to move that data to the proper cell.
Follow the steps below:
- Select the cell(s) and move the mouse over the edge of the selected cells until your cursor turns into a pointer.
- Use the mouse to grab the cell by one of the edges and hold down the mouse button.
- Drag the data or formula to a new location.
- When you reach the new location, simply release the mouse button.
I think this is a quick and easy way to take care of this.

Follow the steps below:
- Click on Format | Background.
- Select the Printed Watermark option.
- Select either picture or text.
- Click OK.
To edit the watermark, open the dialog box once more and modify the options or you can simply go to the Header and Footer and make your edits there.
