2009

Wow! It doesn't seem possible that another year has passed! I'm thinking back over 2008 and all the mistakes I made and all that I learned from those mistakes, not to mention all the new books that I have read, all the friends I've made along the way, and sadly some I may have lost. I think about all my humbling moments as well that remind me on a daily basis that I am but a speck in the universe. I like to think that I have grown over this past year and that I have left my footprints somewhere along the way, that I have helped a a few folks and not upset too many.

We all move forward and hopefully help each other along the way, so let's all move forward together this year and I will do my best to give you the very best newsletter that I can and I will rely on each and every one of you to let me know if I am missing the mark and to let me know what I can do better!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of your for your continued confidence, interest and support for without you there would be no newsletter. Happy New Year to all!

Change Directions in MS Excel

The default behavior of the Enter key in MS Excel drives some folks crazy. When you click on Enter, some people would prefer that the cursor move to the next cell on the right, while others prefer the cursor move downward. Fortunately, MS Excel can accommodate these preferences and more.

To change the way MS Excel reacts after you click Enter, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Tools | Options.
  2. Click on the Edit tab.
  3. Click the Move Selection After Enter check box to activate the direction drop-down list.

In the drop-down list, select from the following options:

    • Down
    • Right
    • Up
    • Left

If you prefer that the cursor stay in the active cell when Enter is clicked, deactivate the check box for the Move Selection After Enter option.

After you have changed the way MS Excel reacts after you click Enter, this change will remain in effect for all new and existing workbooks.

Change Numbers in MS Word Document Captions

When you use the Caption feature in MS Word, a label and number can be assigned to each figure in your document. By default, MS Word assigns each figure a number beginning with number 1 and so on. However, if you do not want to use this number format for the figures, you have the option to change it.

Follow the steps below to change the number format for a caption:

  1. Launch MS Word.
  2. Select the caption you want to change.
  3. Click Insert | Reference | Caption.
  4. From the Caption dialog box, click the Numbering button.
  5. Use the drop-down arrow beside Format, and select the number format you would like to use.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click OK.

Pretty simple once you know how isn't it?
