Happy Easter!

Even though the calendar says that Spring has not yet arrived, I hereby declare it Springtime in my neck of the woods. The peepers started singing at dusk about a week ago and that is truly a sign of spring - one of my favorites in fact! I love hearing them singing at the end of the day as dusk falls. It's really a very peaceful sound. For those of you who do not know what "peepers" are, they're baby frogs!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate it. My family and I celebrate Easter and I still make Easter baskets for my children even though they are full grown adults. I dye the eggs too! I guess I'm still a kid at heart!

Whatever the reason or season you celebrate - I hope you savor and enjoy it! And before I forget - I seem to be getting a bit ahead of myself here - Happy St. Patrick's Day! May the luck of the Irish always be with you!

Please join me in giving a big welcome to Lee, Ronald, Gene, Walter, and Ralph, our new Premium Edition subscribers thus far this month! Welcome to the family!!

Quickly Selecting Cells in MS Excel

Most of you already know that you can use your mouse to select a range of cells by depressing the left mouse button and holding it and dragging the mouse to make your selection.

How about if I told you and even quicker and easier method? I thought that would make you happy!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Select the cell that marks one corner of the range of cells you want to select.
  2. Move the mouse pointer so it points to the cell at the opposite diagonal corner of the range you want selected.
  3. Hold down the Shift key as you click the left mouse button and drag.

That's it! See how simple that is? What's that mantra again? Yes, Save Time and Keystrokes!

Cool New Shortcuts in MS Word

As you may have noticed, I do tend to try and save time and keystrokes most of the time and in that pursuit I am always looking for keyboard shortcuts to use. I have found a couple that I think are very useful and very cool and I am going to share them with you. Your fingers will move so quickly that folks will never guess what you did to get the results that takes them a lot more time!

Suppose you have created a list in your MS Word document but it is a very long list and about three quarters of the way through it you decide that you really should have placed some of the items near the beginning. Obviously you can cut and paste the items - that's nothing new. But how about doing this instead?

  • Simply place your cursor anywhere in the line you want to move. It isn't necessary to highlight the entire thing.
  • Hold down Shift + ALT and use your Arrow keys to more the item up or down.

But don't just keep this cool trick for lists, you can move entire paragraphs in the same manner! How cool is that??

If you hold down the Shift + Alt keys and use the Right or Left Arrow keys instead of Up and Down, your text will cycle through the different formatting styles. Very cool - no?

Printing Multiple Envelopes in MS Word

A reader recently wrote to me and asked me how to print multiple envelopes at one time. What he wanted to do was print a dozen or so envelopes with his return address on them so he would have them on hand.

Good question! Follow the steps below to learn the answer:

  1. In MS Word, click on Letters and Envelopes (or click on the envelope icon on your toolbar).
  2. In the Tools menu, select Envelopes and Labels.
  3. Make certain that you are on the Envelopes tab.

You will notice that there are some options that will allow you to choose Delivery Address, Return Address and Delivery Point Barcode (which I wouldn't advise using).

There is another option that is not readily visible and that is the option to print more than one envelope.

  1. Key in your Return Address.
  2. Before you click Print, click on the Add to Document button.
  3. Now your envelope will be at the top of your document.
  4. Click on Print from the File menu (or use CTRL + P).
  5. Under Page Range, select Pages and in that area enter the number 1.
  6. In the Copies area, enter the number of envelopes you wish to print.
  7. Click OK.

That's all there is to it - plain and simple. Now you have a stack of envelopes all ready to use for paying your bills or sending greeting cards!
