thank you all for sharing your stories. my cat who was vaccinated when she was 8 months, was due this week. i thought i was being a good cat mom paying all this money to take her to the vet, which they insist i give her every shot known to man. she threw up a few weeks ago which made me nervouse(turned out to be a hairball) so i rushed her to the vet down the road who i have never been to. they looked her over and asked me about her vaccinations. i thought they were just going to lecture me about it but they started telling me how cats are so over vaccinated and they believe that its causing more harm than good. i started looking on the internet and i was amazed about how many problems they dont tell you about, and the fact that they give you no options. i actually read that in the long run they are finding cancer in the spots pets are getting thier injections. i cancelled my apointment and i will not be vaccinated my 100% indoor cat. i hope other people read this and save them selves the heartache others had to go thru.

I took my 5 1/2 year old cat - Mylo - to the vet on 1/24/12 where he received his FVR-CP/FELV booster. He seemed fine until a week later where I noticed he wasn't eating and seemed kind of down, disinterested in everything and then I noticed he seemed to be walking funny. I took him back to the vet on 2/2/12 and he ran blood tests, did a urinalysis, checked his blood pressure, temp etc. Every single test was fine and normal. The next 3 days he seemed to be improving although he still wasn't jumping up onto things like before. Sunday night, 2/5/12 - during half time of the Super Bowl - my daughter walked into the office and noticed his head laying funny and yelled for me. He was dead! We are devastated! Our baby is gone. I've been going over his medical records after doing an internet search and finding all of the problems with the vaccines! I never knew. I do remember that last year after his booster he was walking funny but no other problems. I just chalked that up to him scrunching down and trying to get away during his exam. He did improve after a couple days and I never gave it another thought. Sadly, I guess I'm a late learner. I did ask the vet for the brand and lot/sn so that I can report it. It is from Fort Dodge. I am positive that the vaccine killed my perfectly healthy baby. I just wish I had been informed at the possible side effects instead of just taking the vets word for it that he needed it. I will however not keep this to myself and spread the word through family, friends and facebook as to make others aware and spare them the pain of losing a pet.

My cat went in to be spayed and got a rabies and distemper shot. She now has epilepsy with severe seizures. Could this be a reaction to the vaccines?

Honey the 2nd has been a joy and wake up call to my life. honey the second was named after my dearly beloved sisters cat. they are identical in each and way. colors and behavior. honey the second I am afraid is cursed to honey the firsts same fate. God took my ssister's life and then her cats and now he wants to take my cat who reminds me of my sister who died so sudden. I am poor and now I have to watch my cat die. I will hold him till and after his last breath. jbmonsterfish@yahoo.com

My 8-month old (pedigree) kitten is now ailing after generally being FORCED to have the distemper and rabies vaccine on the day of his neuter. I have NEVER had 2 vaccines done at the same time but was in a pinch to adhere to the neuter contract timeline. Breeder gave 2 distemper shots but clinic wouldn't "recognize" the validity. Kitten is feverish, mega lethargic, some vomitting. Will be ringing them shortly to get him in. One of my others experienced actual "distemper" symptoms on his 3rd of 4th Merial vaccines.
Vet alledged kitten "could catch pano" (distemper) AT THE CLINIC. What ?? Yes I know there's sick pets there, but ...!
For an eye opener on the pure mercenary nature of many vet practices, check out the Veterinary Practice Newsletter online.
I will say that I DO have a good vet practice, but I am livid about my ailing kitten now. I do take blame for cutting his neuter op so close to the deadline, but still.

my very healthy 1 yr old cat recently had his yearly rabies shot & distemper. he has not been the same cat since. he is displaying much of the same symptoms noted above. it's been about 12 days now and he is SLOWLY making some progress. all testing from vet is coming back normal (close to $1000 of testing). it HAD to be the vaccinations. he's an indoor cat with no other contact to other animals. wish i found this site BEFORE hand but i will NOT be getting him vaccinated again. i just hope this condition is not permanent or lethal. any suggestions for getting them back to normal????

Thanks to all you caring animal lovers for you input. our cat, which we found at the humane shelter and which had been caged for over a year,..They think she is about 2-3 years old. It took us a year to really gain her trust and devotion. Then yesterday we took her in for her yearly checkup and the vet said she needed a rabies and distemper vaccination. She Was fine last night and this morning, but this afternoon she is listless, can hardly walk and is afraid if we reach to touch her. The shots were given in her right leg. I wish I had seen this site before taking her in for these vaccinations. Our other cats lived to be 22 and 21 years old. They did fine, after we decided they were indoor cats and didn't need these injections. I just pray she does alright. I am sick about it. Say a prayer for Daisy, if you will. Thanks

I have a 12 week old simease kitten who has a 2 reactions to distemper shots. The first time was the day after I got him and took him to the vets 2 days after his shots is was in the emergecy room he vomitted all nite and would not eat or drink. The hydrated him and ran all kinds of test 800 dollars later they said he had an upset stomach. He did get better and was eating and drinking. 2 weeks later he had his second distemper shots and again 2 days later is not eating or drinking. I took him back the vet and they said now they think its a reaction to the distemper shot. He was hydrated subQ 2 times and is still sleeping and won't eat or drink we are going back in the morning to get hydrated again. If he throws up again they won't try him back on food. I am worried he isna't going to get better has any one had this happen

Hi, I had a siamese burmese mix that was allergic to all his vaccines...he almost died from his rabies vaccine at 6 mos old.
I was told that if the mother and father were vaccinated that the kittens may have enough antibodies to fight any illness.

Siamese are particularly prone to vaccine allergies...so beware!! Vaccinating your cats is not the best idea if they are soley indoor cats...
